The Toronto Star details a recent NetZero retrofit project that incorporates a Geothermal heating system.

Common features of NetZero and NetZero ready homes are air-tight and highly insulated walls, high-performance windows, improved ventilation with heat recovery ventilators, and high-performance mechanical systems, in this case, a Geothermal Heat Pump.

The article briefly introduces PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy), a financing tool that a number of Canadian municipalities have started to introduce. Toronto’s version is called the Home Energy Loan Program, look out for

Kingston council calls for natural gas to be taken out of the power supply.


Ontario’s electricity market is going into a period of transition that is expected to include rising demand and the planned closure of the Pickering Nuclear Station in 2026.

“This change is happening no matter what,” Holland said. “We’re asking the government to take other things into consideration other than cost.

Bridget Doherty said “Climate change is our No. 1 risk in the future and now. It is even more pressing than the pandemic.”

There's a fantastic write up about Geosource Energy.

Geosource Energy has evolved into one of Canada’s leaders in the implementation of commercial geothermal energy systems. The company is currently constructing two of the largest geothermal fields in the country: King’s College Circle at the University of Toronto and Newfoundland’s Corner Brook Acute Care Hospital. In both cases, the scale is unprecedented, and the challenges are somewhat new. See the whole story here.
