Advancing the Interests of Our Members
Federal Government Engagement
The OGA continues to engage multiple branches of the federal government to assess opportunities for a dedicated ground‐source heat pump (GSHP) program. We have developed a comprehensive advocacy strategy that presents government decision-makers with a range of viable policy and program options. Supported by one of Canada’s leading government relations firms—and working collaboratively with geothermal associations nationwide, industry champions, and relevant stakeholder groups—we are laying the groundwork for long-term, sector-wide benefits.
Provincial Government Relations
IESO – Home Renovation Savings Program
The OGA remains an active partner in the ongoing evolution of the IESO’s Home Renovation Savings Program, which offers incentives of up to $12,000 for GSHP installations. Through our direct engagement, water-to-water heat pumps have now been added to the eligible measures. We continue to work closely with IESO leadership to ensure the program is efficient, accessible, and supportive of industry best practices.
MECP – Environmental Assessment and Permissions Division
We maintain an excellent working relationship with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks, providing technical insight and industry resources related to drilling practices. Our organization serves as a trusted partner, supporting MECP in its regulatory and oversight responsibilities.
Bill 17
The OGA is actively collaborating with provincial representatives to address industry concerns related to Bill 17. We are focused on ensuring the essential role of GSHP technology is fully recognized within the broader policy framework. We strongly support the development of a unified provincial green standard and are committed to contributing expertise as the legislative process advances.
Municipal Collaboration
Across Ontario, the OGA engages regularly with municipalities to support the development of policies, educate municipal staff, and provide technical resources. We also help connect local decision-makers with OGA members operating in their regions. Whether a municipality is already integrating GSHP systems or is early in its learning journey, we maintain open, consistent communication to ensure they are well-informed and supported.
Industry and Public Events
Toronto Climate Week
The OGA played a prominent role in Toronto Climate Week, hosting multiple geothermal site tours for attendees. Our President, Paul Frith, delivered remarks during the opening ceremonies, highlighting the importance of GSHP technology in achieving climate objectives. We are grateful for the strong member support and look forward to continued involvement in future years.
National Building Decarbonization Forum (NBDF)
OGA Board Members Paul Frith and Tim Weber represented the association at the National Building Decarbonization Forum on November 26–27. Tim contributed as a panelist on “Disruptive Business Models – Innovating, Scaling Solutions and Reducing Costs,” receiving highly positive feedback from participants. The event provided valuable opportunities to engage with leaders across the sustainability and decarbonization sectors.
