The new membership tiers are built to reflect the diversity of Ontario’s geothermal sector and ensure that all voices have a seat at the table.

• Contractors & Professionals: $250

• Suppliers:$500 (under 100 employees) | $1500 (over 100 employees)

• Utilities/Government/Academic:$750

• Associations/Other (Students, Individuals): $150

Memberships run from June 1 to May 31 – so it’s the perfect time to join or renew your OGA membership and be part of a growing, collaborative community advancing geothermal across Ontario.

Geothermal Innovation Powers Historic Transformation at Evergreen Brickworks

When Evergreen set out to transform the Don Valley Brick Works — a former 19th-century industrial site turned cultural landmark — they had one ambitious goal: make it carbon neutral. But upgrading century-old heritage buildings while maintaining historical integrity presented serious design challenges.

With limited space for a traditional geo-exchange system, the team turned to Geosource Energy, who installed 40 angled boreholes beneath the site’s largest building using advanced vertical drilling techniques. The result? A powerful geothermal system now supports heating and cooling for over 53,000 square feet of event, retail, and community space.

“We’re proud to be a living lab,” says Facilities Director Ali Anvari. “This project combines clean technology, heritage preservation, and community building in one.”

And they’re not stopping there. With solar thermal panels and battery storage on the horizon, the Evergreen Brickworks is paving the way for future cities — right in the heart of Toronto.

Application Deadline July 8: BOMA Toronto CREST Awards

The Commercial Real Estate Sustainability Trailblazer (CREST) Awards recognize building owners and managers who demonstrate a strong, ongoing commitment to improving building operations and reducing emissions.  We encourage vendors and suppliers to collaborate with owners and managers in submitting applications—particularly for categories like Innovative Excellence, which spotlight ground-breaking initiatives and partnerships.

Applications are open until July 8, with the award ceremony taking place September 9.

There are 5 categories to participate in –applications can be accessed using the following links:

• Innovative Excellence Award – recognizes new technologies, strategies, or processes to improve building performance

• Collaborative Excellence Award – celebrate the work you have done with your tenants to advance sustainability

• Climate Champion Award – the all-around award for buildings integrating actions to address climate change

• TorontoHydro Electrification Award  – recognizes those that have begun to electrify building systems

• Emission Reduction Leadership (12 building categories): recognizes buildings that have reduced the most emissions from 2023 to 2024.
