Paul Frith Named President of the Ontario Geothermal Association

The Ontario Geothermal Association is pleased to announce that Paul Frith has been named President of the Association. Paul has been part of the geothermal industry and community for over 13 years and has served as a highly active member of the OGA Board ofDirectors for the past two years. He chaired both the 2024 and 2025 OGA Conferences, plays a key role in the association’s government relations efforts, and has been instrumental in growing the member base. He also works closely with the real estate community to increase awareness and understanding of geothermal technology. Paul is enthusiastic about his new role and is committed to growing the Association to new heights. Please join us in congratulating him on this well-deserved appointment.

Patrick Marion Joins the OGA Board of Directors

The Ontario Geothermal Association is pleased to welcome Patrick Marion to the Board of Directors. Patrick is the Senior Procurement & Sustainability Manager at Mattamy Homes Canada, where he leads the integration of geothermal systems in the company’s low-rise division. He was first introduced to geothermal energy as a child in Manitoba, where his uncle ran a drilling business—an early exposure that evolved into a central focus of his career. Over the past several years, Patrick has played a key role in delivering nearly 1,000 homes across seven geothermal communities.

Geothermal Cuts Costs and Carbon for Ontario Farmhouse

For Murray Schlotzhauer and Heather Anderson, heating their country home near Stratford, Ontario used to come at a high price—over $800 a month for oil, plus frequent maintenance headaches. After discovering an oil leak in their basement and fed up with rising costs, the couple turned to local experts Buchanan & Hall to explore geothermal.

The solution? A horizontal loop system installed just outside their home, paired with a 5-ton variable speed heat pump. The result has been years of reliable, even comfort—and major savings.

“The heat is lovely,” says Murray. “Now I spend about $350 on electricity instead of $800 on oil. And we haven’t needed any service since it was installed.”

Engineer Rose Anderson of Buchanan & Hall explains that properly installed systems like this one are low-maintenance and built to last.
