Help Us Build OGA’s New Website!

We have something exciting in the works — a brand-new OGA website designed to better showcase the strength, expertise, and innovation of Ontario’s geothermal industry.

We’re looking for high-quality, professional stock photos and videos, and Case Studies that highlight real geothermal work happening across the province, including:

  • Workers on-site

  • Drilling and equipment

  • Projects in progress

  • Finished geothermal installations

  • Any visually compelling geothermal-related imagery

These visuals are essential to creating a modern, engaging, and authentic website that reflects the incredible work done by our members.

Your quick contribution will directly shape how our industry is represented—thank you for supporting this important project!

Welcoming a New Partnership: OGA Signs MOU with Québec’s New Geothermal Association

The Ontario Geothermal Association (OGA) is pleased to announce a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Association Géothermie Québec, a newly formed organization dedicated to advancing geothermal energy across Québec.

As the association begins its work to build visibility, strengthen the industry, and champion geothermal as a clean, local, renewable solution, OGA is proud to support their launch through this new collaborative partnership.

Through the MOU, both organizations will work together to:

  • Share industry knowledge, insights, and technical expertise

  • Support policy development and regulatory improvements

  • Advance workforce development and education in the geothermal sector

  • Strengthen national alignment and collaboration across Canada

We’re thrilled to welcome Association Géothermie Québec to Canada’s growing geothermal community and look forward to building a strong, unified voice for the industry together.

Featured Podcast: Geothermal’s Role in a Clean Energy Future

In The Driller Newscast Episode 152, host Brock Yordy explores how geothermal energy is powering a cleaner, more sustainable future. The episode features insights from Paul Frith, President of the Ontario Geothermal Association, who joins the conversation to help highlight why geothermal is gaining momentum across Ontario and around the world.

Key insights from the episode include:
• Why geothermal is one of the most effective solutions for heating and cooling
• How policy, investment, and industry support can accelerate adoption
• The importance of education and engaging youth to build a skilled workforce
• Real-world examples of geothermal systems in action
• Why collaboration across industries is essential for continued growth

A great listen for anyone interested in the future of geothermal and the role organizations like OGA are playing in advancing the sector.

Built around the CSA/ANSI/IGSHPA C448:25 Design & Installation standard – now part of the Canadian building code – The new framework supports workforce development across North America, with clear paths from introductory learning to advanced, job-specific certification.

Thanks to Gabriela Grigoriu for her time and Dedication to the Geothermal Industry

As Gabriela steps away from the OGA to focus on family and retirement, we want to take the time to recognize for her years of dedication to the geothermal industry.

Gabriela played a pivotal role in founding and supporting the Ontario Geothermal Association (OGA). Her vision and dedication in 2009 laid the foundation for an organization that continues to champion geothermal uptake across Ontario. From initiating the first meetings and securing the association’s name, logo, and by-laws, to managing the OGA’s finances and supporting the board through challenging times, Gabriela’s leadership and commitment were instrumental in shaping OGA’s success. Her efforts ensured financial stability and created a platform for industry support and growth.

Thank you, Gabriela, for your unwavering dedication and for inspiring progress in Ontario’s geothermal awareness and increased uptake.

Welcome to Our New OGA Members!

The Ontario Geothermal Association is excited to welcome our newest members to the OGA community. Each brings valuable expertise and shared commitment to advancing clean, sustainable energy solutions across Ontario.

We’re thrilled to have you join us—together, we’re driving the future of geothermal innovation and collaboration.

Q: Can you integrate geothermal with a HRV unit?

Home/building owners interested in providing fresh air and enhanced defrosting without creating negative pressure inside can integrate the geothermal system with a heat recovery ventilation (HRV) unit.

Environmentally Responsible Without Costing a Fortune

He may have been a fierce competitor on the ice, but these days, Mike Ault channels his energy into caring for the planet. An egg, dairy, and cattle farmer in Hanesville, Ontario, Mike has always believed in being “as environmentally responsible as possible—without spending a fortune.”

About ten years ago, when his old electric furnace was due for replacement, Mike turned to his friend Jimmie Thom of ATEL Air to install a Bard GeoTec 3-ton two-stage heat pump, connected to six-foot-deep horizontal geothermal trenches beside his home. “They did a good job—nice and neat,” says Mike. “They even changed some of the ductwork.”

The system has worked flawlessly ever since, with only minimal annual service. His small 934-square-foot home, plus loft and basement, stays comfortable year-round at a fraction of the cost of traditional systems. “Cooling in summer costs about $90 to $100 a month, and winter heat about $250,” he says. “I have no regrets—it’s a lot less than the alternatives.”

Mike even helped with the installation himself, using his excavation experience to dig the geothermal field—saving on upfront costs while keeping the project efficient.

For homeowners without the same resources, Jimmie explains that financing options make geothermal accessible, with payments often offset by monthly energy savings. “It doesn’t really have to cost you anything to upgrade to a cleaner system,” he notes.

For Mike, geothermal is part of a bigger picture. “I wanted solar too, but the local grid couldn’t handle it,” he says. “Still, we have to do what we can to protect Mother Earth.”
