A Message from Paul Frith, President of the OGA
2025 was a Year of Change – 2026 is a Year of Opportunity
2025 represented a lot of change for the OGA. The Board of Directors changed, as Jim Bolger, Jeff Hunter and Grant Blackmore stepped away from the board and Gabriela Grigoriu stepped away from the OGA after many years of service. Paul Frith was named Board Chair, and we added Jason Valentine, Patrick Marion, Justin French, Gabriela Kalapos and Ersilia Serafini to the Board.
We signed memorandums of understanding with many organizations that we saw great opportunities to work with. New York Geothermal Energy Association (NY-GEO), The Geothermal Drillers Association (GDA), The International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA), Association Geothermie Quebec (AGQ), The Building Commissioning Association – Eastern Canada Chapter (BCxA-ECC) and the Manitoba Geothermal Association (MGA) all have something in place with us and we are incredibly excited to work with our partners.
Our 2025 conference “Embracing the Shift”, a two-day event at York University in North York, was an overwhelming success and had the largest attendance in our history. We relaunched our monthly newsletter and our subscriptions have doubled since the launch. We started a member benefit package that gives our members discounts on things like insurance, recruiting and health and safety equipment and training, and our general membership continues to grow.
2026 is already off to a flying start. We are going to be doing some substantial work with all three levels of government to grow the industry, we are about to start a new member campaign, and the 2026 Conference “Turning the Shift into Results” at the University of Toronto’s main campus on May 20th was announced just before the holidays.
We have set very high growth goals for the OGA in terms of both new members and revenue, and none of this can happen without the incredible support of our members. We appreciate you spreading the word on what we are doing and encouraging your peers to join the association. As always, we will continue to keep everyone up to speed on what is happening via our monthly newsletter and direct communication. We always welcome your thoughts and feedback, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to any of our Board members with any questions or concerns you may have.
The Board of Directors would like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year and hope all our members have an amazing 2026.
Warm regards, Paul Frith President, OGA

Update on the Status of the Relationship Between OGA and HRAI
On behalf of Paul Frith, President of OGA, and Sandy Macleod, President of HRAI
As members of both associations are aware, the relationship between HRAI and OGA evolved last year. Since then, both organizations have received questions regarding the current status of our relationship and what the path forward may look like. This statement is intended to provide clarity.
While there is currently no formal relationship between our associations, we continue to engage in constructive dialogue and explore opportunities for collaboration. We remain confident that we will work together in some capacity moving forward on issues that matter to the HVACR industry.
As discussions progress, we will continue to keep our members informed and provide updates as appropriate.

Q: What happens to the performance of the geothermal system when the temperature outside gets really cold?
The temperature of the ground below the frost line maintains a constant temperature and is not generally affected by the outdoor ambient temperature.

Sustainability Tip of the Month
|
|
|
As temperatures drop, check your geothermal system’s thermostat and controls for proper scheduling. Adjusting settings to match your household’s occupancy patterns can reduce energy use and ensure consistent comfort—without overworking the system. Small tweaks can make a big difference in efficiency this winter.
