The cost of installing a geothermal system depends on the type of system you choose.

You can have an open or closed loop and it can use forced air, hydronic baseboard or radiant floors for heating and cooling distribution within the building. The initial installation cost is higher than a conventional HVAC system but the operation costs are far lower. Interesting article on Geothermal Heat Pumps.

Interesting article on Geothermal Heat Pumps.
GHPs are also twice as efficient as the top-rated air-source air conditioners and almost 50% more efficient than the best gas furnaces; they have the lowest emissions levels of all applications in HVAC.

By using sustainable, free geothermal energy, GHPs reduce a building’s energy consumption by up to 25% and can cut its emissions from energy use by up to 50%. With such extraordinary benefits, it’s puzzling why these incredibly efficient and sustainable HVAC systems are not yet widely used.

Geothermal can be the most cost-effective way to heat and cool your home.

A common misconception about geothermal is that it is expensive.

The upfront cost of a geothermal system is higher, but it eliminates your heating bill and provides a super-efficient, low-maintenance cooling system.

Add even more saving with the Greener Homes Program includes a grant for Geothermal Heat Pumps!
Qualifying Heat Pumps will receive $5000 for new installations. Both open and closed-loop systems qualify.
More info on the grant here.

California made a substantial step to challenge climate change while expanding renewable energy resources. The package is as much stimulus as it is a relief by providing new tax credits for renewable energy, carbon capture and sequestering.

A GSHP system can be expensive on a house-by-house basis, but for a neighbourhood, community or city, they could be just the ticket.

Vertical ground loop systems utilize the temperature differential between the ground and the interior space to transfer heat — in or out.
