Ford's Progressive Conservatives want to lure the big automakers to produce electric vehicles in southern Ontario.
'We're going to be the number one manufacturer of electric battery-operated cars in North America,' said Ontario Premier Doug Ford during a news conference Monday.
Premier Doug Ford's government is touting Ontario as a future electric vehicle manufacturing hub, and linking that to a fresh push for a huge mining development in the northern part of the province.

A school in London, Ont. is now Canada's first self-sufficient, carbon-neutral high school drawing on solar and geothermal power.

The $9.7 million project saw 2,700 carport solar panels installed throughout the parking lots of John Paul II Secondary School. They provide 825 kWDC of power to a battery system that will heat, cool and provide electricity.

The London Catholic District School Board held a ribbon-cutting ceremony outside the school on Tuesday to celebrate. It funded more than half of the project with the federal and provincial governments contributing $4.8 million.

"The science is clear: we must do more, faster," say's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the COP26 meeting in Glasgow.

Trudeau said Monday the government is now moving on its election promise to cap emissions from the oil and gas sector. The pledge made in September would see emissions limited to around current levels and ratcheted down every five years until they are carbon neutral by 2050.
"We'll cap oil and gas sector emissions today and ensure they decrease tomorrow at a pace and scale needed to reach net zero by 2050," Trudeau said.

Wokewashing is an insidious tactic in which fossil fuel firms argue that strong climate policy would be politically and socially unjustifiable. The social justice argument is currently one of the most prevalent themes in fossil fuel discourse, claiming that a transition away from fossil fuels would adversely affect poor and marginalised communities. It completely disregards the fact that many marginalised communities are disproportionately affected by environmental racism and pollution perpetrated by those industries.

Geothermal included in a groundbreaking new data centre that will create 30 jobs locally in North Bay Ontario.
"Our power plants capture the waste heat to generate electricity more efficiently, whilst reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Renewable geothermal cooling systems and heat from the data centre will be utilized to regulate climate within the data centre." stated in a press release by Validus Power Corp.

The North Bay site will enable Hut 8 to generate power using a blend of by-product steam, hydrogen and natural gas along with a secondary geothermal system that ties in the data centre facility.

The Globe and Mail report that Ford Foundation will divest millions from fossil fuels.

The foundation says it will invest its energy portfolio in alternative and renewable energy and funds that “address the threat of climate change and support the transition to a green economy.” The announcement from the organization — which has a $16 billion endowment.
